Un accident sur l'échelle aérienne au milieu d'un sauvetage lors d'un incendie laisse Mouch secoué et remet en question ses capacités. En accomplissant une tâche lui ayant été confiée par le quartier général, Boden fait une connexion inattendue. Lorsque la caserne est appelée pour une explosion sur un site de construction, Gallo se voit forcé de faire un sauvetage inattendu. Lorsque la Caserne 51 est appelée sur les lieux d'un dangereux incendie à l'intérieur d'une unité de stockage de 10 étages, Hermann et Cruz se retrouvent pris au piège à l'intérieur d'un monte-charge avec toutes les communications coupées. Gallo prend une décision en une fraction de seconde lors d'une intervention sur un incendie laissant Casey penser que ses ordres directs n'ont pas été respectés. Kidd ressent une tension dans sa relation avec Severide. Un incendie dans un camp de sans-abris laisse Severide et Casey à la recherche de réponses. Cruz est secoué après l'avoir échappé belle lors d'une intervention. Ritter donne un coup de main à une victime. Un appel vers un lieu familier entraîne des émotions mitigées pour Severide. Herrmann part en vacances et Casey n'est pas enchanté par son remplacement. Mouch, Gallo, Ritter et Mackey se présentent à l'entraînement. Un mauvais coup à la tête cause à Casey une douleur inimaginable. Une série d'incendies suspects envoie la 51 à la recherche de la cause. Casey continue à cacher ses maux de tête à ses coéquipiers. Mouch cherche à réaliser son rêve tant espéré. Une nouvelle recrue ayant des relations au sein du département teste la patience de Severide. Violet reçoit un mystérieux message qui l'envoie, elle et Brett, à la recherche de la personne qui l'a écrit. Alors que Mouch réalise un incroyable sauvetage, tous les yeux sont tournés vers un homme mystérieux qui a aidé à sauver son voisin. Casey s'inquiète pour son avenir chez les pompiers. Une jeune femme passe plusieurs appels mystérieux à Kidd mais ne veut pas lui dévoiler son identité. Elle fini par lui avouer être en danger et compte sur Kidd pour l'aider à la sauver elle et son frère. Un incendie se déclenche dans une usine de nourriture pour animaux et Casey et Severide aident le propriétaire, Pete, à tirer ça au clair. Le vide grenier annuel a lieu à la 51 et tout le monde est nerveux. Severide et Casey essayent de trouver la meilleure affectation pour Kidd, nouvellement promue lieutenant. Ritter, Gallo et Violet aident à planifier un événement pour Mouch. Severide et Kidd annoncent au reste de la caserne une grande nouvelle. Elle a commandé trois saisons supplémentaires pour Chicago Fire et ses spin-off Chicago et Chicago Med ! Concrètement, Chicago Fire se poursuivra donc avec les saisons 9, 10 et 11, tandis que Chicago reviendra avec les saisons 8, 9 et 10 et Chicago Med avec les saisons 6, 7 et 8. Il faut dire que Dick Wolf et son label Wolf Entertainment ont signé un nouvel accord de cinq ans les liant à Universal Television.
